A celebration of Alberta health partnerships with the Siksika Nation in Ottawa
In December of 2022, Boehringer Ingelheim Canada Ltd., and PATHWAYS Indigenous Health Collaborations held an event in Ottawa to celebrate Boehringer Ingelheim's 50 years in Canada and the emerging partnership between PATHWAYS and Siksika Nation. At the event, a gift was presented to Boehringer Ingelheim Canada Ltd. from Siksika Nation.
We're here today to celebrate a newly announced diabetes pilot with Siksika Health Services
That addresses type two diabetes using innovative technology.
We're also here today to celebrate Boehringer Ingelheim's 50th anniversary
And to acknowledge their commitment to closing the healthcare gap.
We have massive inequities in the delivery of healthcare in our health system in this country.
And that affects remote and Indigenous populations very asymmetrically.
And so the possibility about using remote care to start to
Help to bridge those gaps and form partnerships where we can deliver care in places
Where it was really very inaccessible in the past is a huge opportunity
And something that our team is very passionate about putting whatever time and resources we can in supporting.
There is a gift that we would like to provide by Siksika First Nation,
Their activities directly with Boehringer Ingelheim.
I've worked 43 years in Indigenous health, and I've never seen an opportunity that involves the use of public, private activities.
Everybody else that's been a health manager has always spent their time dealing directly with either federal government or provincial government
With rules, regulations and responsibilities and boundaries. What we're doing over here is
We're allowing those boundaries to be more determined by the communities themselves.
It was fantastic for BI Canada to be acknowledged for the 50 years commitment and contributions
That we have made as a company to Canadian patients as well as the Canadian healthcare system, and even more so
The contributions we've made through PATHWAYS since 2018 to address the healthcare disparity within Indigenous communities
Through Indigenous community informed and Indigenous community led healthcare solutions.
