Partnership matrix

The PATHWAYS partnership matrix defines how partners collaborate, contribute and cooperate to advance mutual interests and objectives related to Indigenous health investments. The matrix is also used to review and evaluate partnership prospects. The function of this tool is to assist Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd. in assessing what various partners are bringing forward to contribute to the success of PATHWAYS investments and activities.

We're the ones that have to look after our citizens. We're the ones that know what is needed. So, making sure that our people have access to healthcare makes it very difficult.

Judith

People want to be able to get healthcare and be respected. And, so if they feel they're not being listened to or respected by their doctor, they don't go.

Many of the Nuu-chah-nulth nations are remote access, so you need to take a float plane or water taxi into some of these communities. This means that often, healthcare services, including diabetes educators, nurses, physicians aren't able to access the communities as frequently as the urban population. I find that empowering community members with the knowledge on how to adjust their own insulin has made such a big difference in their overall blood sugar management. Just by having that little bit of knowledge, their overall management of their diabetes has changed drastically.

We really need better access to health. Our health system as it is does not serve our people very well.

Our vision for diabetes support in all the Nuu-chah-nulth nations is offering every person living with diabetes who would like it access to an endocrinologist or diabetes specialty services.
